Short Film: See you around (Dir. Oren Brimer)
Another gem to join a collection of superb production is director Oren Brimer’s short movie, “See You Around”. This stunning 22 minute romantic comedy shows us the life of a man who is trying to get over a breakup. The first thing you will notice, right from the opening scene, is that Brimer is no stranger to superb writing. That shouldn’t come as a surprise, coming from the writer who created 10 episodes of The Pete Holmes Show. In fact, Pete Holmes himself is starring in this short as the therapist. As you get to know the main character, Tom (played by Josh Ruben), you’ll quickly get used to fast paced dialogue, light banter and punch lines that come rolling one after another.
The cast in this production does a wonderful job of reflecting the struggles that follow the plot. Especially for Courtney Pauroso (playing Tom’s ex, Allison), who at one point takes over characters when Tom starts seeing her in place of other people. Film maker, writer and producer Oren Brimer, had absolutely no trouble keeping the flow going on this project, which can easily be noticed in every aspect of every scene. The plot moves along nicely, and the visual quality is doing an excellent job of fully immersing the viewer into the character interactions, especially during the therapy session scenes.
An exceptional ‘wow’ factor are the scenes that let you see just how creative and skilled Brimer is, when every person in the restaurant takes on the shape of Tom’s ex. Not only does it paint the internal conflict of the main character perfectly, but it also demonstrates the collaborative work of Smokey Nelson and Brimer. They drew out odd shaped split screens on a plexiglass monitor cover, and were able to achieve a gorgeous effect with minimal work in post-production. We at Dynamite Visuals, are absolutely in love with this short! What about you? Let us know in the comments!
